Well said! I spent the last 10 years trying to make my American friends realize what was happening to them and the world, and what it would lead to. I was dismissed as being “dramatic”, told “that can’t happen in America”, and basically laughed at. Americans blinded themselves to any problems because they actually believe they are somehow far more exceptional than any other human on the planet , and their country is so special because of their “Constitution” and rule of law…..as if no other country anywhere has a Constitution and laws.

Fascism is like a virus, it creeps in slowly so as not to worry people, and only once it’s firmly entrenched does it rear its ugly head and show its full extent. There are plenty of warnings signs but apparently in the case of the US those warnings go were not only dismissed they were laughed at and called “impossible”!

Yes it is a culture of complacency and the delusion of "American Exceptionalism" that kept them from being proactive and vigilant. Enough Americans failed to realize that the good times in the 1980s and 1990s ended around 9/11 and the years GW Bush was in power.

Now thanks to their antics, the world still regards Russia and China as viable alternatives and now we are getting Russian or Chinese exceptionalism as excuses to make the world more chaotic. No one should be surprised that the years under Bush would degenerate into what Trump is doing. Progressives and liberals alike in America should be disappointed in themselves for not pushing Obama to go harder when he was elected into office.

I am American. I saw this coming many years ago. I have warned people but not many believed it. I warned about Trump and what he would do. They didn’t believe. I’m elderly, I wish I could leave this country for a better one. I’m sacred and I’m angry. I will continue to voice my opinion. God bless Canada and America.

Yes we all did except for those living in echo chambers. Canada is also having its own problems and no longer the progressive safe haven from years past.
