Yeah. We wanted to get across the border but can’t afford it. Well, we could but not if we want to make sure our adult disabled daughter will have enough to survive after we’re gone.

I’m looking for land in northeastern US right at the border but not having much luck.

Yes we are having a similar problem. Our son has health problems and it is challenging getting the full support he needs giving how the provincial government has mismanaged or privatized parts of the programs he needed. Now we are paying out of pocket for those services not unlike if we were living in the States. Keep searching and make sure to ask questions to Americans living abroad for ideas. Best of luck!

We’ve no options, sadly. My spouse is 5.5 yrs from retirement and we were hit very hard in our 401k in 2008-2009. We’ve recovered somewhat but not nearly enough. Then, our govt is going to to deny the poorest and disabled amongst us, so our daughter will have NO income. Add to that the fact that pensions might go <poof>. So, that money and benefits could be gone. That means no $ for my motorized wheelchair and no healthcare. 😢😢😢😢

I am sorry to hear about this. Have you looked into moving to somewhere like Costa Rica or even Mexico that has a lower cost of living and American retiree community? The silver lining is that not all of Trump's changes will happen right away.

Because of what my spouse does for a living, security is a serious issue as far as working from home. So, I doubt we could live outside the country. He can’t even work from some states due to legislation. He could retire early, but his (he says our) pension would go from $6k a month down to $1k a month. Plus, medical care would be imperative as our dtr is ASD and Schizophrenic with almost all of the accompanying issues. I’ve a rare genetic disorder…. Should’ve died almost 20 yrs ago, but I’m still here!

I have started research on Belize, Costa Rica and Mexico, though. I’ve asked my spouse to just withdraw our 401k but he wants to wait it out. Sigh. Trying not to panic.

My son has ASD and I don't exactly have much savings since moving to Canada from Hong Kong and benefits from local companies are a mixed bag. I have my 401k and Roth IRA from living in the USA but no plans to take it out until closer to retirement. That being said, I will likely lose a chunk of it from Canadian income taxes
